The day the kids have been waiting for

It's finally here - High School Musical on DVD. My kids have been waiting for this day.
In honor of the dvd release we are posting the pictures of when our kids met some of the cast of High School Musical as well as some other Disney Channel stars. During Spring Break we went to see the taping of The Disney Channel Games where the kids got to see Disney Channel stars compete in various games and that is where the got their pictures taken. Emily went in another car so she is absent from the pictures but she was thrilled to get an autograph from Zac Effron.

Published
We have a published poet in the family.
Megan found out this week that she will have a poem she wrote published in a hardbound book entitled A Celebration of Young Poets. It will be in the Spring 2006 edition. She is also up for a monetary prize if her poem is selected as one of the top 10 published.

Here is her poem...
Enchanting Evening
The radiant sun sets
I slowly crawl up the steps
To my room I glide
My energy subsides
I collapse into my soft, warm bed
With bliss I lie down my head
Everything is tranquil
The evening wind brings a chill
I am calm too
Until dawn comes anew
The poem was written as extra credit for her English class but the contest is open to all - grades K-12 and adults. For all you other poets out there more information can be found at www.poeticpower.com

We got spirit, yes we do!

A big cheer goes out to Emily for the fantastic job she and her team did at their first cheer competetion. Hip, hip, horray!
Emily has been participating on her school cheer team this year. They meet once a week after school and learn and practice a competitive dance and cheer routine. Emily's team took home the 2nd place trophy.
Congratulations Emily!

a wedding, a birthday and a bunch of ghosts

We spent this past weekend in Utah to attend my sister Lauren's wedding. She and Brett were married in the Salt Lake Temple. We are all happy for her!
While in Utah, Nathan celebrated his 7th birthday. We were lucky enough to be staying with our friends the Saylins and they spoiled Nate with a birthday breakfast and dinner. Nate wanted to go bowling for his birthday so Derek and Greg Saylin went to the local bowling alley with the kids and everyone had a good time.
It was a short weekend away that seemed much longer then it was because of all the stuff we had going on but it was still a lot of fun. We even broke down and said yes to the kids when they asked if we could stop at Calico Ghost Town on the way home. It's one of those side trips that we always say "hey that sounds fun" but then we just keep driving by. We're glad we stopped. We got to see and do some cool things and the kids were happy to buy some "authentic" arrowheads and rocks.
got pictures?
This is a test, it is only a test. I am going to attempt to download a picture or two. If I am succesful then you are now enjoying the pictures. If you see no pictures you can be sure that I am now staring blankly at the screen while scratching my head, waiting for Megan to get home from school to tell me what I am doing wrong.Wish me luck...
the bakers go blogging
So I thought our family would try this blogging stuff - it seems to be the new thing. I like to pride myself in knowing a bit about technology and how to use it but after spending a good bit of time figuring out how to post this message I see I need to humble myself just a bit. If I had to guess I would say that Megan will be the one in the family that keeps our little corner of the internet updated.
So we're going to give this a try. I hope you'll check in every once and awhile to catch up with us.
